I went for a walk and encountered Three Minds.
I saw the first mind,
water frozen solid,
the solidified mind of me, you, she, he, this, that,
the mind that recognizes things and objects,
the mind that knows for sure, and doesn’t know what it doesn’t know.
I saw the second mind,
liquid water, running below the ice, kissing its belly,
the liquid, malleable mind of we, us,
suggesting context as it forms content,
the mind that knows certainty as possibility.
I saw the third mind,
water as nothing, vapor, dancing free,
unseen, undemanding, ever-present,
seeking neither context nor content,
the mind beyond mind.
I saw what you see, just as you see what I saw,
experiences wafting in and out, the smoke of a smoldering blaze,
phases of the mind meeting at the water cooler,
bubbling as the conversation we call life.
