Healthcare is moving in the direction of wellness due to public demand. To do this more efficiently and precisely, healthcare leaders and as a caring public invested in our quality of life, must ask: What is health? What is wellness? What is the difference between these two, if any? Where is our healthcare system now with regards to these definitions? And finally, what is the path forward? We need to explore and understand what wellness and health are, not only as intellectual concepts but as living experiences. As our global population surpassed 7 billion and expect to breach the 10 billion mark in 2050, the pressures on health care and aging population, as average lifespan increases need to be reinvented.
I will explore these issues through the lens of human anatomy. How would a more complete model of the human being help us move toward wellbeing?
